Description
Adored for its highly ornamental berries, the Magic Berry Coralberry is an amazingly adaptable North American native deciduous flowering shrub anyone in USDA Zones 3 to 8 can easily grow and enjoy. At 4 to 6 feet tall and equally as wide, this dwarf cultivar is excellent for use as a specimen, in groupings or as a natural hedge. In early summer an abundance of small, bell-shaped, pink flowers appear. The butterflies, hummingbirds and beneficial pollinators will surely enjoy them. The real prize is the abundant clusters of showy, rose-pink to pinkish-purple berries that persist well into winter and will last two week on cut stems for floral arrangements. The birds and small mammals will thoroughly enjoy the berries. The broad mound of arching branches are clothed in blue-green, oval-shaped leaves that remain attractive from spring to frost turning to purple-red with the arrival of cooler temperatures in fall. Amazingly adaptable and non-demanding, plant this one in full sun or full shade and most any moist to dry soil of average to even poor fertility.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a broad mound 4 to 6 feet tall and equally as wide, the Magic Berry Coralberry is ideal for use as as specimen, in groupings or as a natural hedge in sunny or shady landscape and woodland borders. A fine addition to butterfly and hummingbird gardens, pink theme gardens, wildlife gardens, native plant gardens and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing:Â Â 4 feet apart for mass plantings or hedges;Â 10 feet or more apart for space between plantsÂ
Growing Preferences
Coralberry is very easy to grow in a wide range of soils preferring a moist but well-drained soil of average to even low fertility and full sun to full shade. For the best berry production we suggest 4 hours or more of direct sunlight per day. No pruning necessary however responds well to it for size control or shaping purposes.
